The advantages of directional antennas are generally used in communication systems with long communication distances, small coverage, high target density, and high frequency utilization.
An omnidirectional antenna is defined as a 360° uniform radiation on the horizontal directional pattern, which is what is usually called non-directional. In general, the smaller the lobe width of the signal, the greater the gain. The advantages of omnidirectional antennas are generally used in communication systems with short distances, large coverage, and relatively cheap prices.
The difference between omnidirectional antenna and directional antenna
Since directional antenna faces an angle when in use, it can point directly in the direction of the satellite, which prevents signal diffusion and effectively faces the designated signal source, so the application distance is relatively far; while the signal of omnidirectional antenna is easy to diffuse and not easy to concentrate, resulting in a short application distance.

Antenna selection: If you need to meet multiple sites, and these sites are distributed in different directions of the AP, you need to use an omnidirectional antenna; if you concentrate in one direction, it is recommended to use a directional antenna; in addition, you should consider whether the antenna connector matches the AP and whether the antenna gain size meets your needs.
Installation of outdoor antenna
For outdoor antennas, lightning protection equipment needs to be added between the antenna and the wireless AP; for directional antennas, pay attention to the direction of the front of the antenna facing the remote site; according to the application scenario, it is recommended that the omnidirectional antenna be installed at a height of 5 meters and the directional antenna be installed at a height of 10 meters, and the antenna and the site should meet the line of sight as much as possible (visible to the naked eye, avoid obstacles in the middle).
